Fall Wonders - Field Day

Fall at Jack Creek Preserve is truly magical! Come spend the day with us on Saturday, October 5th, 10:30am-3pm to explore the wonders of Fall!
Naturalist instruction by Cedar Mathers-Winn will open your eyes to the details of this season!
COURSE CONTENT:
Elk Rut
Learn about why elk bugle during this time of year
Understand the differences between ungulates and their behaviors during the rut
Listen for elk bugling on the Preserve!
Leaf Changes
Discover the logic behind the beauty of why leaves change color
Identify different tree species by observing their leaves
Migration
Learn about what species are beginning their migrations
Discover the intricacies behind mammal migration and autumn adjustments in behavior
Learn about how animals are preparing for winter

Date: October 5th, 2024, 10:30AM to 3PM
Meet at Jack Creek Preserve’s Outdoor Education Center
Cost: $30 per person
We will be hiking up to 2 miles and spending 2-3 hours outside
Outdoor exploration will follow a classroom portion
Bring your own lunch, water, snacks, and hiking gear
About the instructor, Cedar Mathers-Winn: Cedar is a naturalist, biologist, and educator based in Bozeman, MT. He has a Master’s degree in Ecology, and has studied animal behavior in deserts, rainforests, and mountains around the world. He has taught undergraduates, professional scientists, and the public in a great variety of topics in biology and natural history. His mission is to show how common subtleties of nature open up worlds of wildness – always there but hidden in plain sight.
