Volunteer opportunities
The Jack Creek Preserve Foundation is in need of volunteers, especially during the summer season. Please view opportunities below!
Summer outdoor skills Camps
+ Rotation Class Instructor
Rotation classes are a chance to share your skills and passions with campers in a small group setting. Past classes have included archery, fly fishing, elk ecology, wildlife tracking, water ecology, mapping and orienteering, outdoor cooking, photography, shelter building, and more! If you have one of these skills or any others you would like to share, don't hesitate to contact us! Classes are taught to groups of six to nine campers and are two-hours each and most camps run six rotations over two days.
+ Special Speaker
Special speakers provide a source of fun and learning for the whole group. Past discussion and activities have included topics such as astronomy, Montana raptors, elk calling, being bear aware, ecology bingo, and noxious weeds. Please contact us if you have an interest in sharing stories or leading a group activity for up to 50 kids at camp! Time slots can be from half an hour up!
+ Camp Operations
If you enjoy being behind the scenes and all-around help, this is the role for you! Camp requires constant help in the kitchen, with clean up, and supervisory roles for activities!
+ Junior Counselor
Junior counselors are a vital part of camp. Volunteers age 16-18 act as support for all camp activities, become mentors for campers, and get an opportunity to grow their resume. Junior counselors stay on site all four days and three nights, and act as supervisors and resources to campers.
+ Archery
Archery is a huge component at camp, and we are constantly in need of help with range supervision for free time, helpers with the archery class, equipment maintanence, and archery competition facilitators.
Winter Outdoor Skills Camp
+ Camp Operations and Outdoor Activities
If you have knowlege and experience in winter outdoor safety, travel, and recreation, we would love to hear from you! From winter backcountry safety to avalanche awareness, and winter wildlife habitat use, we could use your expertise! We also have a need for overall logisitcs of the camp, food prep, assitance with outdoor activities and events, and set up and clean up.
Educational Programming
+ Archery Class Instructor
We host a variety of school and camp groups at the Preserve for day programming. One common class request is archery, but we are in need of more expertise and supervision for the group sizes we host. If you have an interest in helping to teach archery to a variety of groups and have availability during the day, either weekends or weekdays, please let us know!
Trail Maintenance
+ Trail Volunteer
The Preserve contains two trails with Forest Service easments, #316 and #317, that lead into sections of the Lee Metcalf Forest, as well as the Low Pass Trail, which connects the two. These trails can become overgrown in the busy summer months of outdoor education, and we could use your help in keeping them in great shape!
Weed Control
+ Weed Warriors
Like much of Montana, the Preserve is in a constant battle with noxious weeds. We need your help in stopping these weeds. Please contact us if you are interested in helping us in this battle and if you would like assistance identifying which weeds to pull.
Volunteer Forms
Volunteers can access forms to prepare for events and Outdoor Skills Camps here; however, you should be prompted by Jack Creek Preserve Foundation staff before completing any paperwork. These documents will help to prepare you for the experience, while ensuring that you have a fun and inspiring experience.
