Our Winter Outdoor Skills Camp is a 3-day, 2-night program for participants ages 12-16 held at our Outdoor Education Center. The camp focuses on backcountry safety and snow science, specifically an Avalanche Awareness Course by the Friends of the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center and curriculum from Winter Wildlands Alliance’s SnowSchool Program. Lessons include safe winter backcountry travel, winter shelter building, how to make a fire in the snow, an avalanche dog rescue demo, wildlife adaptations to winter conditions, and winter habitat use.

The cost of each camp is $200 per camper which includes all meals, instruction and activities, some equipment/gear, and lodging. Full and partial scholarships are available through our scholarship application. See below for more information about how to register or apply for a scholarship.

Cancellations made up to 48 hours in advance of the camp start date will be refunded, minus a 20% administrative fee. No refunds will be issued for no shows. If the Preserve cancels our camp for an unavoidable reason, refunds will be issued.
